Dr. James E. Williams age 85 of Mason, Ohio died Saturday, August 26, 2006 at Salyer’s Care Facility in Hillsboro. He was born April 18, 1921 in Hillsboro, Ohio the son of the late J. Edgar and Mildred (West) Williams. Mr. Williams had served Hillsboro and the surrounding area for thirty-six years as an Optometrist. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Dr. Williams was a 1939 graduate of Hillsboro High School and a 1947 graduate of The Ohio State University. He was a member of the Highland Lodge #38 F&AM, Highland Commandery #31, Hillsboro Council #16 R&SM, Past High Priest of Hillsboro Chapter #40 Royal Arch Masons, Hillsboro Order of Eastern Star #41, Hillsboro Rotary Club and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks #361. He is survived by his wife, Ellen (Doebele) Hern Williams whom he had married on December 10, 1983 in Hillsboro, one son and daughter-in-law, James and Betsy Williams of Milford, one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Robert Stone of Lawrenceville, Georgia, five grandchildren, Jennifer & Ryan Holliday of Social Circle, Georgia, Eric Streitenberger of Atlanta, Georgia, Ben Williams of Milford, Ohio, Jeff Williams of Oxford, Ohio and Mitchell Stone of Statesboro, Georgia, two nieces, Debbie Clancy of Orlando, Florida and Sandi Delaney of Weston, Connecticut. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara (Predmore) Williams on July 27, 1980 and one sister, Margaret Colliver on March 5, 2004. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 31st at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church. Rev. Chuck Shonkwiler will officiate. Burial with military honors being presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Masonic services will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The body will lie-in-state at the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 644 Linn Street, Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203 or to Hospice of Hope, 9090 Kenton Station Drive, Maysville, Ohio 41056.

I went to high school with Dr. Williams's son, James. We were in band together and I considered him a good friend. While I have not had any contact with the family for many years, I was very sorry to hear of Dr. Williams's death and want to extend my condolences to his family.
