Heber Loren Wilkin age 96 of Hillsboro died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Highland District Hospital. He was born February 4, 1909 near Lynchburg, Ohio the son of the late Noah and Nora (Roush) Wilkin. When Mr. Wilkin was two years old both of his parents passed away and he was fostered by the late Charles Alvin and Essie (Pratt) Lemon. Mr. Wilkin was an accomplished tool and die mechanical engineer working for companies in Dayton, New Vienna and Hillsboro. He was a longtime member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ, a member of the Hillsboro Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #361, a sixty year member of the Highland Lodge #38 F. & A.M. and a sixty year member of the Hillsboro Chapter #40 Royal Arch Masons. Mr. Wilkin was active in the local HARA (Ham Radio Organization) with advanced privileges and early call letters of WA8ZRE.  He was also a farmer, avid gardener, golfer, hunter and fisherman enjoying times with his son, son-in-law and brothers. He is survived by his wife, Catherine “Betty” Walsh Wilkin whom he had married on April 7, 1990, one son, Tom and his wife Garnet Wilkin of Hillsboro, one daughter, Jane Wilkin Wilson and her husband Larry of Munith, Michigan, two grandchildren, Terry Wilkin of New Vienna and Cindy and her husband Mark Asmus of Hillsboro  and Terry and Cindy’s mother,  Ruby Gall of Hillsboro, five great grandchildren, Ashleigh Wilkin, Miranda Wilkin, Kelsey Wilkin, Taylor Asmus and Jed Asmus, two stepsons, Jim Walsh and his wife Christa  and Steve Walsh of Coshocton, three stepdaughters, Cathy McKee of Berrysville, Susan Cooper and her husband Ron of Hillsboro and Janet and her husband Mark Childress of Coshocton. In addition to his parents and foster parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Rogers Wilkin on January 12, 1989, one sister, Edna Malloy and three brothers, Leonard, Russell and Clennie Wilkin. Services will b held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December19th at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. John Porter will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with Masonic Services at 2:45 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
