
The
angels visited the bedside of Ruby Hedge Wicker age 71 of Lynchburg on
Thursday morning, January 06, 2005 at the Highland District Hospital and
escorted her safely from this life into the arms of Jesus. Ruby was born July 4,
1933 in Trenton, Ohio the daughter of the late William Spencer and Scytha Marie
Thompson Willhoite. During the course of her life she served God with every
fiber of her being and was blessed with an awesome gift of writing poetry which
brought her much recognition over the years. She is author of Gold
From a Ruby, received a plaque of appreciation during a Bicentennial
ceremony held at the Clinton County Courthouse for her Clinton County
Bicentennial Poem of the Year in 1976 entitled “America, Oh America.” She
has been published in numerous books and newspapers including the current
publication sharing her work Cross
Point Christian Newspaper. She founded the Gospel Singing group “The
Gospel Pioneers” in 1975 that traveled to hundreds of churches and the Clinton
County Fair to sing and read poetry. Her song “Nut for Jesus” was recorded
on CD in Texas in 1998. Her latest accomplishment in 2004 was receiving first
place in the 22nd Annual Senior Citizen Art Show, Essay & Poetry
Contest. She was a professional cook for Wilmington College for the Bengal
training camps, at the deli for Bob & Carl’s Finer Foods and the
Crossroads Restaurant until she retired. Ruby was currently a member of the
House of Worship in Hillsboro and enjoyed attending the Hillsboro Chapter of
Women’s Aglow Christian Ladies fellowship. She is survived by her daughters
and sons-in-law, Connie and Roger Osborn of Hamilton, Cathy and Allan Chowning
of Lynchburg, Candy Hedge of Hillsboro, sons and daughters-in-law, David and
Linda Hedge of Lynchburg, Timothy and Karen Hedge of
Midland, Mark and Lori Hedge of Willetsville, Mike and Rebecca Hedge of
Lynchburg, 12 Grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, sisters and
brothers-in-law, Bernice Meadows of Blanchester, Joyce Robertson of Lebanon,
Mary and Paul Casey of Middletown, and Billie Gay and Fred Napier of Middletown,
a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a myriad of friends and “adopted”
children who called her “Mom”. Along with her parents, she was preceded in
death by her first husband, Mearl Hedge, second husband, Rev. Elsworth
“Toby” Wilson, and third husband Clarence “Butch” Wicker, a sister,
Edith Willhoite, a brother, Glenn Willhoite, and a special mother-in-law,
Elizabeth Jean Hedge. Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 10, 2004
at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Rev. Calvin Martin will
officiate. Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery. Friends may call2:00
until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Memorials
