David Eugene Spears age 58 of Hillsboro died Saturday, August 19, 2006 at his residence. He was born May 17, 1948 in Morgan County, Kentucky the son of the late David and AuraBelle (Caskey) Spears. Mr. Spears was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Vietnam War and had been a construction worker. He is survived by his wife, Erla (Murphy) Spears whom he had married on August 5, 1967 in New Carlisle, Ohio, two daughters and sons-in-law, Janis and Ron Bennington of Hillsboro, Michelle and Jamie Thompson of Greenfield, six grandchildren, Kyle, Nicholas and Derek Bennington and Sarah Jessica and Courtney Thompson, one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Bob Cheek of New Carlisle, father and mother-in-law, Earl and Aline Murphy of New Carlisle and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one daughter, Davina Spears Teague, one son, Charles Ray Spears, two sisters, Marjorie and Audrey and three brothers, Billy Joe, Larry and Hershell Spears. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Ed Danes, Larry Speelman and Walt Yeomans will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Walker Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.

I got a call from my friends wife Verla in Ohio, she called to tell me that my friend Dave was just talking about me a few days ago, she said he really liked me alot and was wonderin if I was going to Chillochtee Ohio for the Easyrider roadeo this year? I said yeah i'm goin..Tell him i'll meet him under the ol oak tree..... This is where i met Dave Spears as i was sitting on my Harley under an big ol oak tree n 2002, he pulled his bike in beside me and we started to talk and became friends after that. Being i'm from old sckool and Dave too, we had much in common on talking and riding and just plain relating to life..., then in 2003 just 2 days before the Rally we were to meet under that old oak tree the following yr, however his wife Erla called me the day of to say that Dave got hit on is bike by a hit n run and was in tramua unit, well as I sat under the oak tree waiting for him i had recieved this nightmare call...I left the rally and rode out to Dayton Hospital to go see my friend. He was really bad! But he sure glad too see me and that i rode all that way myself too see him...lol, i told him i'd ride anywhere too see my friend, once i make a friend your with me forever i said...he knew that!That day he had just came out of the coma... I'm just sittin here in awe............as i think of him and as i type.....I truely can't beleive it...Dave, I sooo wish you would have called me a few days ago my friend...I can't get you off my mind...and Verla you also have my thought's and prayers.
