The world got a little darker yesterday and those of us who knew Marcia lost a GREAT friend. I first met Marcia in 2002 on the internet while looking for information on the Singer family. I had no idea just how important that search would become in my life. Going along with Marcia on her quest throught cemeteries and Historical Societies was sometimes mind boggling, but filled with wonder at her ability to bring things together. I will spend more time at the Penryn Cemetery where our quest and connection started.....I know that I will now have partner on another level when i hit a brick wall or need help putting information in order. I know that when my time comes to move on that I will be greeted by Marcia and she will expect an accounting. My goal is to not dissapoint her. She has an eternity to visit with all the Singer Clan....Heaven just got a lot more interesting.

Life for Marcia was always about taking care of and seeing to someone else. Now she is reaping the divine reward of being so many things to so many people for so many years. God bless family and extended family one and all.

What a great gal Marcia was - always interested in so many things: travel and genealogy being the two we had most in common. She touched many lives during her years in Lynchburg and Highland County as evidenced by those who visited her and sat with her during the days at Heartland. While a sad time to see Marcia go, during the times I was there I saw her life celebrated as those present shared "Marcia stories" - had she been awake she would have enjoyed that time with all the friends surrounding her with so much love...a special time I will long remember.

Marcia will be missed by her Union College family of alumni and friends. She always contributed to her alma mater in whatever way she could. She served in various leadership roles with the alumni association, served on the Bulldog Travel advisory committee, provided funds for scholarships, and was a dear friend to many of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.

Marcia shared so much of herself with our family as well as with the community. We will be eternally thankful.

We always knew we would get the most possible from any trip we took with her. No grass would grow under our feet, and we would see everything we could see in a most efficient manner.

She taught me about geneology which took us on another interesting trip.

But I think the thing I probably respected her most for in all the times we were together, she didn't gossip about her students. Not an easy thing to do when you know so many intimate aspects of so many different people.

We will really miss all of her God given gifts she shared so generously.

Dear Family and Friends of Marcia,

Joyce and I wish to convey our condolences to you in your time of sorrow. Marcia was a one of a kind person. She was kind and considerate, with a terrific sense of humor. Her love for God, her church, and her family and friends was transparent and obvious. She devoted her life to the education of young people; and demonstrated her love and concern for them by the, way that she interacted with them.

I observed at the time of the death of a popular student, how she consoled students that were terribly upset, by hugs, the wiping of their tears, and by praying with them at their request.

When she was diagnosed with cancer, I asked if she wanted me to visit from time to time. She said, "As long as you don't make a big deal of it." That's the way Marcia was, and we'll all miss her greatly until the time of the great reunion.

With love and prayers for all,

Bill & Joyce Biza

Marcia was my first grade teacher. She was also my high school librarian. I have many, many great memories from both experiences. I will never forget all of the stories and interesting experiences she shared with me during high school because I was her library aide. When I became a first grade teacher myself, Marcia offered to sort through her own first grade materials and give them to me. Unfortunately, I never made that date to pick them up. I truly wanted to come to the visitation and pay my respects, but will be out of town for work. My deepest condolences go out to Marica's family and friends, as she was a wonderful person. She will be missed.

Marcia Singer was an astute, loyal, and focused person. We all knew her name was spelled M-a-r-C-I-A because she was often called "Mar-Cee-Uh" which, as a kid, I assumed meant she preferred strongly that her name not be misspelled "MarSHA". She was, after all, an incredibly meticulous person herself: sharp minded, with an incredible memory worthy of a “Smithsonian Historian” appointment. She exemplified making your own world interesting, pursuing things to the end of the investigation, being diligent and thorough, and helping others do the same. Given a task, Marcia saw her own way from the beginning to the end and you could rely on her to carry it all out. (Just look out if you differed in opinion on how things should ‘go‘, but, ther that could all be worked through with her wit and, if nothing else, debate definitely gets the troops moving!) Marcia showed many folks around her new ways to find intrigue in the world, including small things such as the unique gifts she always found for others, and her hosting of so many wide-eyed kids to England, and the like. It was through her sharing of interests, mysteries, and memories that she demonstrated her devotion and kinship. She was truly an example in this regard and my family and many others will miss her reliable and conscientious ways. I know I will think of her often when I need to be precise about something, or when doing a crossword puzzle, or planning an event, or looking at collections of unique items with their detailed stories behind each piece (she‘d remember every detail).

Marcia’s driven interest in family history was perhaps balanced by the fact that she had her own family of friends in the Lynchburg and Highland County community which others have mentioned on this site, and our comforting thoughts go to those who spent those many hours taking care of her, sending encouragement, and being there for her when she needed them most, even though she didn‘t want any fuss. - April Roush Harsha and family

A Teacher, Mentor, Colleague, and Friend Marcia meant so much to me. I visited her first grade classroom as I was preparing to become a teacher and then as a colleague as I began my career as a first grade teacher. It was a privilege to know someone so dedicated. Marcia was truly a role model. Over the years we worked together in different capacities for Lynchburg-Clay. There were many enjoyable times such as a trip to London chaperoning one of the junior classes. I will miss her so. It has been a blessing to know her.

Marcia was a dear friend to my family. My mother worked with her at the school and they shared genealogy. Maracia was so helpful when I had my parents 40th wedding anniversary. We always laughed. That is what I will remember most about her is how much fun she was.

Miss Singer was an amazing person and teacher. When I was a library aide my senior year she helped me fill out college applications, and got me really excited to further my education. Throughout college she kept in touch and always had a helpful word. She will be missed. My prayers are with her family, and the many, many friends she left.

My deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Marcia. Our days go back to the early 1970's when I taught Kindergarten at Lynchburg-Clay, and Marcia taught First Grade. Marcia was a wonderful mentor to me in my first years of teaching. I am so appreciative of the wealth of knowledge that she shared with me. She loved her students, and they loved her. She has nurtured several children during her years of teaching.

I am so sorry for your loss. May "the God of all comfort" (2 Corinthians 1:3,4) comfort and soothe your heart. His promises, found in the Holy Scriptures, can offer much hope. It assures us at John 5:28,29 that our loved ones will be remembered and brought back to life in the resurrection. Please allow God's Word to strengthen you and help you to endure this most difficult time.
