Mary Katherine Shepler age 96 of Hillsboro died Sunday evening, May 30, 2010 at the Laurels of Hillsboro. She was born September 13, 1913 in Rainsboro, Ohio the daughter of the late Walter L. and Madge Rittenhouse Brown. Mrs. Shepler was a retired school teacher. She is survived by one niece, Kay (Jim) Payton of Davenport, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen H. Shepler, two brothers, Paul E. “Pete” Brown and Joseph Brown and a nephew, David Brown. Mrs. Shepler had bequeathed her body to the University of Cincinnati. There will be no services observed. The Turner & Son Funeral Home assisted the family.
Mary Katherine was such a joy to talk with. She truly was a blessing to all. Thanks be to God.
We live in the Shepler house and have for the last 22 years. I met Ms. Shepler many years ago as a child and always loved their place. I am sorry for your loss. If in Greenfield feel free to stop by.
Mary Katherine sat with my mother Delma Fairley at the same dining table at the Highland House for 4 years. We had many long mealtime conversations on her life and current events around the community. She was always a joy to be around and eternally grateful for any small gift or remembrance. I will remember her as being one of the most gracious and positive people I have ever known. It was always remarkable how she desired to remain strong and independent, doing as much for herself as she could. My mother moved to a nursing home last fall, but I was able to visit Mary Katherine one last time at Christmas. She had such an interesting life, and I would like to learn more about her early endeavors. I always tried to piece together her stories she related to me, but if she or someone close to her has compiled a journal of her life I would love to see it.
