Mary Arlene Shaffer, age 75, of Wilmington, formerly of the Hillsboro area, died Friday, May 18, 2007 at the Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness.  She was born February 5, 1932, in St. Martin, the daughter of the late Walter Andrew and Mary Ann (Walsh) Kennon.  She is survived by a daughter, Judy and her husband Donny Browning of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, a son, Tommy and his wife Linda Kennon of Fayetteville, a sister, Margaret and her husband Leon Tapley of Macon, Georgia, a very special niece, Nancy Jarrell, also of Macon Georgia, who was devoted to her, two granddaughters, several great grandchildren, cousins and nieces, as well as special caregivers Peggy Camp and Robyn Allen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Cowan Messer, and a sister, Clara Aber.  Funeral services for Arlene will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  Rev. Tom Zile will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery.  Friends may call from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, 2007 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
