John
Allen Sears, age
93, of Hillsboro, went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, November 15,
2010. He was born January 3, 1917, a son of the late Wilbur and Mary Sears.
He was born and reared in Waynesville, Ohio. After graduating from
Waynesville High School, he went to Cincinnati Bible Seminary (now Cincinnati
Christian University) and graduated in 1940 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sacred
Literature. He continued his studies to fulfill the requirements for a
Master’s degree. While in Bible College, he met his wife Evelyn.
He had a very full life, ministering to several churches in Kentucky, Ohio,
and Michigan. He may be best known for his ministry with Great Lakes Bible
College beginning in 1949 where he taught English, Acts, Speech, and the Epistles.
At the same time he had a ministry with the Hatfield Church in Big Rapids, MI.
At the conclusion of that ministry, he ministered with a small church in Sumner,
Michigan, and taught English at Vestaburg High School (Michigan). He was
honored by the alumni association of Cincinnati Bible College and Seminary with
the Golden Eagle Award, and in 1985, both he and his wife were honored by the
alumni association of Great Lakes Bible College for their outstanding service
in God’s kingdom. He also served several years as a member of the board
of Rock Lake Christian Assembly. In 2005, John decided to move to
Hillsboro, Ohio, and live with his son, Jerry. After battling aspiration
pneumonia for seven months, he passed away in his home. John was preceded
in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and his wife Evelyn. His
survivors include two sons, Jerry and John Mark Sears of Hillsboro, two daughters,
Ann Glass of LaMoille, Illinois, and Mary Cheryl Horwath of Soldotna, Alaska,
nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service and
celebration of his life will be held by the family at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November
26, 2010 at the Marshall Church of Christ. An additional memorial service will
be held at the Ferris Center Church of Christ in Vestaburg, Michigan, on Sunday,
November 29 at 3:00 p.m. He will be buried next to his wife at the Ferris
Center Cemetery in Michigan. Memorial contributions can be sent in his
honor to Hillsboro Christian Academy, 8230 US Rt. 50, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133
or the Christian Restoration Association, 7133 Central Parke Blvd, Mason, Ohio
