Barbara Jean Rothwell age 72 of Lynchburg died Thursday afternoon, November 27, 2003 at the Highland District Hospital. She was born December 11, 1930 in Adams County, Ohio the daughter of the late, Dr. Martin Lester and Edith Lucille (Westervelt) Purdin. Mrs. Rothwell had been an account clerk for the Adams County Department of Human Services and had owned Rothwell’s 125 Grill in West Union and the Roselawn Motel in Allensburg. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and later attended the Church of Christ in Christian Union. She was a 1948 graduate of the West Union High School. She is survived by her step-mother who had raised her from the age of three, Ruth Purdin Cooper of West Union one son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Georgia Rothwell of Peebles, two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy Lou and Charley Walker of Lynchburg, Becky and Denny Davis of Lynchburg, four sisters, JoAnn White of West Union, Louise Moore of Peebles, Dorothy Young of Hillsboro, Mary Ester “Tootsie” Purdin of  West Union, one half brother, Michael Cooper of West Union five grandchildren,  Bryon Loury, Desiree` Lamb, Justin Rothwell, Jon Wendell Rothwell and Emma Davis and five great grandchildren Sarah Lamb, Mason Lamb, Madelyn Loury, Samantha Loury and Cody Rothwell and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wendell D. Rothwell on April 18, 1985. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 1, at the Beam Funeral Home in West Union. Burial will follow in the Freeland Holler Road Baptist Cemetery in Adams County. Friends may call on Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg and from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Beam Funeral Home in West Union. I was so sorry that I couldn't attend Barb's services because of a family emergency. Barb and Wendell were such good friends and neighbors to us for about 14 years and more like family to us. My prayers go to everyone in her family. We will miss you Barb. Shirley
