Daniel William
Rhoads,
age 77, of
Leesburg, died Thursday, January 11, 2007 at his residence. He was born April
10, 1929 near Sinking Spring the son of the late Daniel W. and Bessie (Davis)
Rhoads. He had one full sister, Opal (Rhoads) Shoemaker, who survives in
Sinking Spring. With the Nation’s economy in distress and the death of his
father, Dan left school and began his journey in life. Dan saw the world in
black and white, (right or wrong). There was little room for gray areas or
foolishness in decision making. As a result he formed close friendships with
men of similar backgrounds that he could relate to, Bob Lawhorn, Bob Mason, Bill
Beecraft, Art Roy, Charley Hartman, and Harry Grooms were six of these men.
There were close family members, co-workers and Dayton Power and Light,
neighbors around Port William, and the McDonald’s Group for whom he had great
respect. He found his best friend and life-long companion Juanita (Shoemaker)
Rhoads whom he married August 30, 1948, and together they had each other’s love
and companionship for more than 58 years. They had one child, Nancy (Kermit)
Holliday; two granddaughters, Lorraine (Eric) Pedersen and Allison Meyer; and
two great granddaughters, Danielle Christian and Hollie Meyer. In addition to
his parents, he is preceded by one great grandson, Jack Pedersen. Funeral
services will be 1:00 pm Monday, January 15, 2007 at Turner & Son Funeral Home,
Hillsboro. Rev. Dr. Dan Lamb of the Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church will
officiate. Burial will follow in the New Maple Grove Cemetery in Port William.
Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm at the
funeral home. The family asks that donations be made to Community Care Hospice,
P.O. Box 123, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
