Charles E. Purtee, age 82, of Hillsboro, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born February 10, 1928 in Antioch, Ohio the son of the late John and Jane Grooms Purtee. Mr. Purtee was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He had worked at Clinton Asphalt for 13 years, was a member of Teamsters Local #100, Dayton, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1161, Hillsboro, and a former member of AmVets Post #61, Hillsboro. Charlie enjoyed playing cards and collecting tools, but most of all he loved his family; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife Janice Credit Purtee, to who he married February 9, 1957 in Richmond, Indiana; children, Steve Purtee of Hillsboro, Christopher (Beth) Purtee of Hillsboro, Marsha Purtee of Kettering, Shelly (John) Williamson of New Vienna, Sherry (Ed) Newman of East Monroe, Stacey (Mike) Davis of Hillsboro, and Lisa (Eric Mason) Purtee of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Teal (Larry) McFerron of Sharonville, Eddie Newman of East Monroe, Emily Newman of East Monroe, Charlie Davis of Hillsboro, Chandler Davis of Hillsboro, Lisa Davis of Hillsboro, Wesley Purtee of Hillsboro, Ashley Purtee of Hillsboro, Sarah Purtee of Hillsboro, and Hannah Purtee of Hillsboro; sister Mary Eikelberry of New Vienna; special friend Juliet Davis of Hillsboro; best friends Peanut and Gracie; and a host of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Alfred Purtee; one sister Wanita Dowler; and granddaughter Jennifer Davis. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. Leo Kuhn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gilboa Cemetery where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord military honors. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the funeral home.
