David Franklin Penwell age 80 of Lynchburg died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born May 30, 1924 in Bainbridge, Ohio the son of the late Floyd and Charity (Myers) Penwell. Mr. Penwell was a retired warehouseman. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II, a life member of the VFW Post 9094 and a life member of the AmVets Post 61. He had attended the Word of Life Church in Wilmington. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dunn) Penwell whom he had married on September 4, 1948 in Newport, Kentucky, son and daughter-in-law, David “Bud” and Gloria Penwell Jr. of Lynchburg, daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and James Brown of Lynchburg, Deborah Waggoner of Sebastian, Florida, Davida Matthews of Pahrump, Nevada, Danna Shepherd of Hillsboro, Darlinda and Mike Shepherd of Hampton, Tennessee, Dottymae Fox of Hillsboro, Dawnita and Galen Pegan of Dodsonville, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren, one sister, Ursel Chain of Sarasota, Florida. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Richard Penwell on February 26, 1991 and by ten brothers and sisters. Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Pastor James Brown will officiate. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post 9094, 1000 West Main Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
