Richard Eugene Murphy, age 85, of Hillsboro, formerly of Newark, died Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Heartland of Hillsboro.  He was born February 3, 1921 in Highland County, the son of the late Willard and Nellie (Bloom) Murphy.  He was a graduate of the Newark College of Commerce.  He owned and operated the Dick & Betty Murphy Grocery in Newark for many years, as well as the Dick Murphy Wholesale Candy Company. He was an avid gardener.  He is survived by his first wife and mother of his children, Betty (Hickman) Murphy of Newark, three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jim Holtz of Newark, Patty Kreager of Hillsboro and Susan and Gary Kidner of Newark, eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a sister, Eileen Hoover of Springfield.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Violet Bailey Murphy, a sister, Lois Jane Murphy and a brother-in-law, Homer Hoover.  Graveside services for Richard’s family and friends will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark.  Mr. Murphy’s nephew Daniel Norris will officiate.
