Gifford Afton Murphy age 72 of Hillsboro died Friday morning, December 16, 2011 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1939 in Berrysville, Ohio the son of Kathleen Ernestine Arnett Murphy of Hillsboro and the late Paul Cecil Murphy. Mr. Murphy had worked for the Railroad for several years. He also worked for Cincinnati Milacron, Afton Plant and owned and operated Giff’s Nursery in New Martinsburg for several years. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Latham Ohio, a member of the Bainbridge American Legion Post #14 and the Hillsboro Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 1161. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Amanda Conley Murphy whom he had married on September 30, 2004 in Latham, Ohio, three sons, John (Teresa) Murphy of Greenfield, Shawn and Kerry Murphy of Chillicothe, four step children, Eugene (Teresa) Morris of Virginia, Larry (Debbie) Morris of Hillsboro, Darlene (Jim) Gagne of Virginia, Chris (Desarae) Bailey of Hillsboro, seventeen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two sisters, Pat Evans of Hillsboro, Ramona Willis of Dixon, Texas, two brothers, Wayne (Mary Ann) Murphy of Hamilton, Ken (Kathy) Murphy of Hillsboro and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and one sister, Donna Reno. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 20th at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Rev. Tom Zile will officiate. Burial will follow in the Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
