William D. Lewis, Sr., age 71, of Lynchburg, died Saturday evening, October 30, 2010 at Highland District Hospital. He was born March 7, 1939, in Hazard, Kentucky, a son of John Jackson of Lynchburg and the late Martha (Lewis) Jackson. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, was a member of the Westboro Pentecostal Church, and had a booth at Caesar’s Creek Flea Market for several years, and leaves many friends there. In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of fifty years, Mary (Brummett) Lewis, whom he married on October 20, 1960, in Cincinnati. He is also survived by six children, William D. Lewis, Jr., and his wife Becky of Lynchburg, Donna Lawson and her husband John of Lynchburg, John Lewis and his wife Tina of Hillsboro, Penny Shope of Lynchburg, Martha Jones and her husband Jeff of Lynchburg, and Roger Lewis of Lynchburg, seventeen grandchildren, Martha Hayton, William Lewis III, Ashley Lewis, Shayanne Lewis, John Lawson Jr., Mary Lawson, Chris Lewis, Johnny Lewis, Timmy Lewis, Michael Shope, Savannah Shope, Ben Jones, Mollie Jones, Jordan Lewis, Dustin Lewis, Trisha Lewis, Tyler Sears, four great grandchildren, Justin Hayton, Jayden Lewis, Oakley Lewis, Harley Lewis, two aunts, Ruby Couch of Dayton, Shirley (Joe) Lawson of Indiana, two uncles, Jim Lawson of Phoenix, Arizona, Wallace (Charlene) Lewis if Lynchburg, and close family friends John Rhoades of Lynchburg, John Streber of Hillsboro and Steve Streber of Wilmington. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by an aunt and her husband, Mary and Riley Lawson. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Pastor Delbert Saylor will officiate. Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
