
Jack W. Kerns, age 77 of Leesburg died Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. He was born March 29, 1926 in Leesburg, Ohio the son of the late Eugene and Ethel Faris Kerns. Jack was the Chief of Police for the Village of Leesburg for over 30 years, a life member of the DAV and past member of the American Legion, a 1944 graduate of Leesburg High School, a member of the Highland County Senior Citizens, AARP and a member of the Leesburg Lions Club serving 17 years as chairman of the eye glass foundation. He also had owned and operated Kerns Antiques in Leesburg for many years. On June 7, 1966 in Leesburg, Ohio he married Betty Jane Kibler and she survives. Also surviving are his sons and daughter-in-law, Jack Kerns Jr. of Hillsboro, Tom and Leslie Rhoades of Columbus and Keith Rhoades of Leesburg, daughters and son-in-law, Linda Kay Rulon of Wilmington and Gale and Russ Jarmusch of Orlando, Florida, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In addition to parents, a brother, Robert Kerns, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg. Pastor John Fitzgerald and Rev. Max Jackson will officiate. Burial, with military honors being presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg with F.O. P. services being held at 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Highland County Society for Children and Adults, 930 N. West St, Hillsboro, OH 45133.
