Robert R. Hern, 92, of Clearwater, Florida (formerly of Hillsboro) died Monday March 22, 2010 at his home. He was born Oct. 21, 1917 in Highland County, Ohio the son of the late John and Ruth (Redkey) Hern. Mr. Hern was District Manager of Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric in Hillsboro until his retirement.  He was a Master Sergeant serving in the U.S. Army Air Force and received the bronze star for his service. He was past Exalted Ruler of the Hillsboro Elks, a Free and Accepted Mason, past president of the Hillsboro Lions Club and a graduate of Hillsboro High School.  He is survived by two daughters, Jane (Philip) Sheridan of Dayton and Linda (Mike) Wiljamaa of Charleston, SC, one son, John R. Hern of Hillsboro, eight grandchildren; Jeff (Rachael) Sheridan, Stacy (Mike) Hendricks, Robert Blake Sheridan, David and Benjamin Carrier, Caroline (Brian) Kindell, Ryan (Kelly) Hern, and Lauren (Simon) Comisar, five great grandchildren, Riley, Emma, Claire, Chase and Olivia and one sister, Helen (John) McDermott of Hillsboro. His later years were brightened by his companion, Dorothy Bailey of Ft. Myers, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Charlotte (Spilker) Hern, a sister, Mildred (Hope) Miller, and a brother, James D. Hern.  Bob was an avid golfer who had six hole in ones to his credit. On a golf outing to Scotland when he was eighty-eight years old, he birdied the eighteenth hole at “The Old Course”, St. Andrews.  He was a wonderful father and grandfather and his laughter and dancing will be missed by everyone who knew him! He will be laid to rest at Sylvan Abbey in Clearwater, Florida.  A celebration of his life is being planned to take place this summer.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Society for Children and Adults, P. O. Box 258, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
