Winifred L. “Winnie” Hakes age 84 of Hillsboro died early Saturday morning January 18, 2003 at the Crestwood Nursing Center. She was born August 29, 1918 in Blanchester, Ohio the daughter of the late Alton and Sara (Warren) McKinney. Mrs. Hakes had been an employee of the RobertShaw Company working as an assembler. She was a member of the Highland County Senior Citizens. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Myrna and Tom Hudson of Hillsboro, one son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Pat Hakes of Hillsboro, four grandchildren, Diane Hudson-Moore and her husband Mark, Tim Hudson and his wife Wanda, Scott Hakes and his wife Jill and Andy Hakes and his wife Dana, six great grandsons, Brad Hudson, Matthew Hakes, Daniel Hakes, Nathan Hudson, Adam Hudson and Tristan Hudson, one granddaughter-in-law, Debra Hudson and a special nephew Paul Wilson and his wife Betty of Hillsboro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Hakes on January 29, 1970, two sons, Dr. Jerry L. Hakes and Marlin Hakes, and one grandson, Michael Hudson. Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial will follow in the Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to the Highland County Senior Citizens, 185 Muntz Street, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Greater Cincinnati Chapter, 644 Linn Street, Suite 1026, Cincinnati, Ohio 45203.
