Carl Paul Haefner, age 92, of Hillsboro, formerly of Leesburg, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at the Highland House.  He was born on June 23, 1913 in Cincinnati, the son of the late John C.L. and Elsa E. (Schwartz) Haefner.  Carl graduated from Walnut Hills High School and studied at the Art Academy and graduated later as a commercial artist from the Ohio Mechanics Institute in Cincinnati.  He joined the Kroger Company in 1933 in the original Art Department and spent forty years creating and developing promotional and advertising programs for the company’s many food products.  In 1973 he retired to Florida where he turned to his first love, science, and paid many visits to the space center.  He supported many environmental and conservation groups and was an ardent worker to put more science back into school curriculums.  Mr. Haefner was a World War II veteran of the United States Marines.  He is survived by a brother, Albert John Adrian Haefner, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.   In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elma (Pfister) Haefner.   Carl’s family and caregivers would like to thank the caring staff at the Highland House, Highland District Hospital, Community Care Hospice and Dr. David Gunderman for their special care of Mr. Haefner.  Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.  There will be no visitation.  The Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro is serving the family and providing cremation services.   For more information or to send condolences to the family.
