John H.
Gossett, age 97, of the Pricetown area, died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at
his home with his family by his side. John was born September 30, 1913 in
Lynchburg, the son of the late John A. and Lavon Roush Gossett. After the death
of his father in 1914, John was raised by his uncle Elmer and Aunt Cora on a
farm near Buford, at that time his cousin Madge became is big sister. John
graduated from Buford High School in 1932. He was baptized at the Methodist
Church in Buford and later became a member of the Pricetown Church of Christ
where he served as a deacon. John was a lifelong farmer, a member of the
Producer Feeder Pig Association, and was a Salem Township Trustee for many
years. He had sold American Peoples Encyclopedias, and was involved with sales
of Watkins Products for many years specializing in livestock products. John
married Thelma Workman on December 29, 1938 and they were blessed with six
children. John is survived by his children, Charlotte Mings of Kapolei, Hawaii,
John A. Gossett and his wife Chris of Hillsboro, Charles L. Gossett and his wife
Linda of Pricetown, David Gossett of Bethel, Ronald Gossett and his wife Lori of
Sardinia, and Charlene Roush and her husband Randy of Hillsboro; sixteen
grandchildren, Leann (Alan) Simmons of Lynchburg, Sonia (George) Cassity of
Bethel, Heather (Troy) Hammond of Hillsboro, Trenton (Terri) Gossett of
Cincinnati, Sheree (Lyndon) Gossett-Johnson of Hilliard, John Henry (Holly)
Gossett III of Centerville, Courtney (Joe) Palcic of Bloomington, Indiana, Chad
Gossett of Hillsboro, Devin Gossett of Hillsboro, April (Jared) Roush Harsha of
Cincinnati, Matthew Gossett of Sardinia, Michelle (Jerry) Rolfes of Cincinnati,
Deanna (Doug) Stoutenborough of Cincinnati, Dominique Gossett of Bethel, Sheri
Kuha of Hawaii, and Jeffrey (Emily) Mings of Hawaii; twenty-four great
grandchildren, Zachary, Ethan, and Alicia Simmons, Callie (Charlie) Hauke,
Brianna and Serena Hammond, Zane, Skyler and Brogan Cassity, Elyse Gossett,
Tarah and Nicole Gossett, Kaitlin and John Albert Gossett, Nicholas and
Gabrielle Palcic, Gavin and Mallory Harsha, Dylan and Nathan Stoutenborough,
Justin Pettigrew, and Jessica, Johnna, Josiah, and Jocelyn Kuha; one great great
grandson, Brenden Kindler; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition
to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Thelma Workman
Gossett on January 13, 2009; uncle Elmer and aunt Cora Gossett; son-in-law
Donnie Mings; brothers-in-law Delmas Workman and Russell Workman; and
sisters-in-law Madeleine Workman and Stella Workman. Funeral services will be
held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the Pricetown Church of Christ.
Leo Kuhn and Daryl Mount will officiate. Burial will follow in the Barker
Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday, November 15, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
at the Pricetown Church of Christ, and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of
service at 1:00 p.m. in the church. Memorial donations may be made to the
Pricetown Church of Christ Missionary Fund, 2070 State Route 131, Hillsboro,
Ohio 45133. The Davis- Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg, is serving the family.
