
Jack Gilliland, age 78, of Lynchburg, died Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the Highland District Hospital. He was born October 19, 1925 in Lynchburg, the son of the late John and Thelma Malone Gilliland. He was a lifelong resident of Lynchburg and was retired from Hendee Brothers Construction as a plumber. He served in the United States Navy during W.W. II; and along with his wife, was former owner and operator of the Village Inn, (Pauline’s) in Lynchburg. He is survived by his wife, Pauline Knisley Gilliland, to whom he has been with for 23 years; children, Deloris (Joe) Houk of Lynchburg, Rita (Mike “Flash”) Hertlein of Lynchburg, Jeanie (Charlie) Balon of Lynchburg, Charlie (Sheena) Barker of Wilmington, and Christina (Shannon) Gill of Lynchburg; sister Hilda Hendee of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Becky Barker, Cassie Young, Sammi Crawford, C.J. Barker, Casey Houk, and A.J. Gill; great grandson Hunter McDaniel; and one nephew. In addition to his parents he is preceded by one grandson, Bobby Jack Young. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2004 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by the Highland County Honor Guard.
