James Gilbert age 68 of Hillsboro died Saturday morning, March 25, 2006 at the Mercy Hospital Anderson in Cincinnati. He was born December 23, 1937 in Oneida, Kentucky the son of the late George and Alta (Burns) Gilbert. Mr. Gilbert had owned and operated James Gilbert & Sons Construction Company for over thirty years having been the general contractor for the addition to the Hillsboro Library Building, the new Lynchburg Library building, new Greenfield Library building, new Sabina Library building, Hillsboro Justice Center, New Hillsboro City Water Treatment Facility, Highland County Water Company, Boebinger Building and the Columbus Southern Electric Buildings, Domino Pizza building, Weastec building, Woody Williams Optical building as well as remodeling of the Merchant National Bank building and the former 1st Security Bank building. He was a member of the Germantown F&AM Lodge 257 and the Carpenter’s Union Local 104. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Spence Gilbert whom he had married on December 30, 1992 in Hillsboro, two sons and daughters-in-law, Randy and Charlotte Gilbert of Hillsboro, Wendell and Kim Gilbert of Hillsboro, two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Rob Wear of Felicity, Rhonda and Matt Ramsey of Cincinnati, twelve grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Bernice Jenkins of Dayton, Joyce Ann Kline of Dayton and one brother, Maynard Gilbert of Dayton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Bill Gilbert in 1990, one sister, Hazel Harold and one brother, Harold Gilbert. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29th at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Mike Free will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
