Major Edward J. Herman
USAF Retired,
age 64, died Sunday Nov 14, 2010 in Albuquerque NM. Ed was born Nov 4, 1946 in
Sandusky OH, the son of the late Edward and Marie Herman. Ed was a graduate of
St Mary’s HS and received his BS in
Electrical Engineering from
University of Detroit.
While at U of D, he was a member of the AF ROTC unit and came on
active duty
July ’69. His first assignment was at Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton. There
he met and married Capt Paulette Hughes Sept 9 1972. He received his MS in laser
optics and physics from AF Institute of Technology in ’75. He is survived by
his wife, Paulette, and son, Sean Edward. He is also survived by his brother
David (Melody) of Powell OH, sister Barbara Burrill (Joe) of Dayton, one niece
Colleen Burrill of BGSU, sister-in-law Norette (Robert) Mitchell of Lynchburg
OH, and brother-in-law Steve (Zana) Hughes of Fayetteville OH. In addition to
his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Suzanne Schoewe, of Tampa
FL.
Ed and Paulette enjoyed assignments at Kirtland AFB, NM,
Ramstein
AB Germany, Nellis AFB, NV and then returned to Wright-Patterson where he
worked in the F-16 SPO and then the B-2 SPO where he was the Assistant Chief of
Engineering.
Ed retired Nov 1989 after 20 years of service. They remained in
Beavercreek OH, until July 1993 when they moved to Corrales NM and
new jobs. Ed’s last position was as an IT Specialist for Boeing-SVS.
Ed enjoyed the NM outdoors and was an avid
ham radio operator. He enjoyed
building his own radios and antennae. He loved taking pictures of the balloons
during fiesta.
A Memorial service
will be held November 20th at 10 AM at the East side chapel, Kirtland AFB, NM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the National Museum
of the AF in
Dayton, OH or the
Air
Force Association.
