Joe A. Duncan age
75 of Hillsboro died Saturday August 26, 2006 at the Bethesda North Hospital in
Montgomery. He was born June 13, 1931 near Hillsboro, Ohio the son of the late
William E. and Bessie Mercer Duncan. A 1950 graduate of Hillsboro High School,
Mr. Duncan had been a lifelong farmer and had served as a Penn Township trustee
for twenty-four years. He was a member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church,
the Leesburg Masonic Lodge # 78 F & A M, Farm Bureau and had served on the
Highland County Fair Board, Highland County Committee of the A.S.C.S. and had
also been a supervisor for the Highland Soil and Water Conservation Service. He
is survived by his wife, Pat Shafer Duncan, whom he had married on November 1,
1950 in Hillsboro, Ohio, two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff and Lydia Duncan of
Leesburg and Jay and Julia Duncan of Leesburg, two daughters and sons-in-law,
Janet and Bob Martin of Washington C.H., Ohio and Joyce and Kevin Cosler of
Leesburg, eleven grandchildren, Grace, Libby and Scott Duncan, Rob, Corey and
Nathan Martin, Erik Smith, Lucas Cosler, Jeremy and Jason Gerber and Jaylie
Duncan, one great grandson, Trey Martin, one brother and sister-in-law, Lewis
and Ruth Ellen Duncan of Leesburg, one sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jane and
Herb Heinrichs of Urbana, two sisters-in-law, and a brother-in-law, Helen Duncan
of Leesburg and Barbara and Jim
Tira of Hillsboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two
brothers, Jack and Jay H. “Tom” Duncan and one sister, Elizabeth Ann Duncan.
Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Leesburg United Methodist
Church. Max Jackson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hightop Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner &
Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The body will lie-in-state one hour prior to
services on Wednesday at the Leesburg United Methodist Church. Memorial
contributions may be made to the Leesburg United Methodist Church, P. O. Box
333, Leesburg, Ohio 45135 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
