Richard Harold Cox I, age 76, of Hillsboro, died Friday afternoon, November 26, 2010 at the Ohio State University Medical Center. He was a member of the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as Trustee of the church for several years. He retired in 1988 from General Motors after thirty-two years of service, and loved to fish, hunt and play pool. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. On March 9, 1953, in Carmel, he married his wife of fifty-seven years, Ruth (Dillon) Cox, who survives. He is also survived by seven children, Diane Combs and her husband Don of Sardinia, Donna McCalla and her husband David of Hillsboro, Debbie Setty and her husband John of Samantha, Doris Cox (Nathan Spurgeon) of Wilmington, Richard “Pete” Cox II (Sandy Erlenger) of Hillsboro, Cindy Hamm and her husband Jim of New Vienna, Sue Ahrmann and her husband Daryl of Hillsboro, twenty-nine grandchildren, Lori (Mark), Farrah (Scott) Somer (Kevin), Josh (Ashley), Mike (Becky), Steve (Katie), Stacy, Shane (Stacey), Richie (Tanya), Tiffany, Richard III, Cory, Toni (Randy), Tammy (Randy), D.J. (Jamie), Brigette (Larry), Laney-Bug, thirty-four great grandchildren, Nick, Natalie, Bryce, Mia, Haley, Ariana, Shania, Austin, Bubba, Willie, Ryan, Desiree, Lora, Jessie, Cloe, Elijah, Isaah, Evan, Sierra, Alex, Andie, Brittney, Blake, Bethany, Caitlin, Abby, Emma, Christian, Colin, Braydon “Cole Bucket”, Alana, Connor, Sarah, Charlie, six sisters, Melissa Parker, Darlene Findley, Opal Huffman, Mary Watters, Nancy Shaw, Betty Smith, two brothers, Frank Cox and Bill Cox, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, Ruth, Bonnie, Ida Mae, Alice, Margaret, and three brothers, Robert, Ronald and Gene. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Samantha Free Will Baptist Church. Reverend Wiley Perkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
