Dudley Earl Cherry, age 79 of Leesburg died Wednesday morning September 10, 2003 at his home on the family farm that celebrated it’s 200th anniversary of the Ladd family settlement on May 10, 2003. He was born April 27, 1924 in Leesburg the son of the late Walter Ray and Locie V. (Davis) Cherry. At the age of 12 Dudley began a life long farming career. He is a 1941 graduate of Fairfield High School, and attended Southern State Community College where he received his education to become a Real Estate Agent. Mr. Cherry was a birthright Quaker and a member of the Leesburg Friends Meeting having served as a Trustee, a housing board member of the Friendly View Apartments and served on the committee for the restoration of the Old Fairfield Meeting House. He is survived by his sister, Joanne (Worley) Johnson of Chillicothe, a niece, Janet (Larry) Chapman of Hillsboro and nephews, David (Sharon) Michael of Rhode Island, Edward (Sherri) Michael and Tom (Beth) Johnson, all of Chillicothe, special friends Ron and Georgia Barber and their family along with many friends and relatives. Along with his parents, his wife, Gladys L. Simmons Cherry on August 5, 2002 and an infant sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church with Pastor John Fitzgerald officiating. Burial will follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
