Gladys L. Cherry age 81 of Leesburg, Ohio died Monday, August 5, 2002 at the Heartland of Hillsboro following a lingering illness. She was born November 12, 1920 in Leesburg the daughter of the late Crate and Lulu (Denning) Simmons. Mrs. Cherry was a long time member of the Leesburg Brush and Palate Club and the Leesburg Art Guild. She was widely known for her artistic ability. In the past few years she had been an honorary member of the art guild. Gladys was an expert in ornithology (birding). She gave informational seminars, wrote articles and passed her love of birding on to her family and friends. She was a member of the Leesburg Friends Church, active in the Golden Rule Sunday School Class and was the church librarian for many years. She was a graduate of Fairfield High School. She is survived by her husband, Dudley E. Cherry whom she married on December 15, 1962 in Dayton, Ohio, one sister, Evelyn Leeth of Marion; one brother, Ralph Simmons of Ludlow Falls; eighteen nieces and nephews and special friends, Ron and Georgia Barber of Leesburg. Along with her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by one sister, Lillian; four brothers, Harold Hobert, Howard and Melvin Simmons. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Leesburg Friends Church. Pastor John Fitzgerald will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Leesburg. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Leesburg Friends Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leesburg Friends Restoration Fund, P. O.
