Ella Kathleen Carlson age 84 of Portland, Oregon died Sunday, January 4, 2004 at the Providence St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center in Portland. She was born August 3, 1919 in Hillsboro, Ohio the daughter of the late LeRoy and Georgia (Bell) Fenner. Mrs. Carlson had worked for the State of Oregon as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse and had retired from Dammasch Hospital in Wilsonville, Oregon. She was a 1940 graduate of the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati and received her Bachelor of Science in 1969 from Portland State University. She was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Nurse Corp from July 16, 1941 until December 23, 1945. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Steven Nakamoto of Portland, two sons, Brent and Carl David Carlson both of Portland, three grandchildren, Erika, Marika and Corrina Nakamoto all of Portland and one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Howard Sprinkle of Hillsboro. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Dwight D. Fenner. Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2003 at the Hillsboro Cemetery. The Highland County Honor Guard will present military honors at the graveside. There is no visitation. The Turner & Son Funeral Home is serving the family.
