Jacob Alvis Akers age 96 of Lynchburg died Monday morning July 19, 2010 at his home. He was born March 25, 1914 in Liggin, Kentucky the son of the late Henry C. and Amanda Tackett Akers. Mr. Akers had been engaged in coal mining and later worked in construction. He was a member of the Little Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church in Sligo Ohio. He is survived by six sons, Joseph C. Akers of St. Petersburg, Florida, Gary L Akers of Belfast, Jerry D. Akers of Lebanon, Kentucky, David W. Akers of Gaines, Pennsylvania, Jacob D. Akers of Lynchburg, Keith A. Akers of Clearwater, Florida, five daughters, Daneen Stergis of Milford, Lillian G. Elking of Hillsboro, Sheila Newkirk of Hillsboro, Patricia A. Tong of Lynchburg and Karen L. Brown of Lynchburg, forty-three grandchildren, sixty-four great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Holbrook Akers on August 11, 1998, two daughters, Anita Blaylock and Sharon Akers, one grandson, Benjamin Leatherman, one great granddaughter, Cinnamon Elking, one great grandson, Devon Dabe, one brother, Joe E. Akers and one sister, Gladys Dobbs. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 23rd at the Little Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church in Sligo, Ohio. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro and from 8:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the Little Bethel Old Regular Baptist Church in Sligo. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Care Hospice, P. O. Box 123, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
