Betty Jean Neff, age 66, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 12, 2014 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. She was born October 17, 1947, in Mansfield, the daughter of the late Vernon and Mary (Faust) Walrath. She was a member of the Common Ground Community Church. On November 19, 1969, in Gahanna, she married her husband of forty-four years, Wm. Paul Neff, who survives. She is also survived by a brother, James (Wendy) Walrath of New York, and a sister-in-law, Katy Walrath, of Delaware. In addition to church families, she leaves many friends at Heartland of Hillsboro Nursing and Rehabilitation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five children, William David Neff, Jon Mark Neff, Christina Lynn Neff, Amanda Jean Neff and Gabrielle Dawn Neff; and a brother, Ronald Walrath. In keeping with her wishes, she was cremated. A celebration of her life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2014 at the Common Ground Community Church in Hillsboro. A second service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Family Worship Center in Blacklick, Ohio.

Jerry Dean Leber, age 77, of Greenfield, formerly of Hillsboro, passed away Wednesday afternoon, July 9, 2014 at Hearth and Care in Greenfield. He was born June 7, 1937, in Hillsboro, the son of the late Charles and Rose (Moshauer) Leber. He had worked for many years at the Hillsboro City Water Department. He was a veteran of the United States Army, and was a member of the Greenfield VFW Post 4736. He is survived by his significant other, Bernice Epling, of Greenfield; two sons, Dean (Brenda Wages) Leber of Washington Court House and Rick Burnett of Louisville, KY; two daughters, Debbie (Del) Alvey of Hillsboro and Jenny Epling of Hamilton; eleven grandchildren, Chad Leber, Krystal Leber, Brody Leber, Alyssa Leber, Corey Shultz, Tyler Alvey, Kayla Alvey, Chris Alvey, Megan DeYoung, Mandy Wages and Kim Leaming; twelve great grandchildren, Scarlett, Adair, Bentley, Maxton, Jaden, Preston, Peytyn, Ashtyn, Shad, Shelby, Damon and Wyatt; a sister, Sarah Cox of Hillsboro; and three brothers, Ralph, Raymond and Roger Whiting, all of Hillsboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Ann (Devena) Leber, on October 5, 2005; and a brother, Ronnie Whiting. Funeral services will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Highland County Honor Guard will present military honors following the funeral service at the funeral home. Burial in the Greenfield Cemetery will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family. Thomas L. Sexton age 62 of Hillsboro died peacefully Tuesday morning July 8, 2014 at the Highland District Hospital. He was born August 26, 1951 in Hillsboro, Ohio the son of the late Elbert and Neva Winkle Sexton. Tom had been a heavy equipment operator for the Carter Construction Company in Miamiville, Ohio. He was a 1970 graduate of Hillsboro High School and had been a member of the Ohio Air National Guard. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Armstrong Sexton who he had married on December 19, 1970, one son, Robert D. Sexton of Springfield, Missouri, one sister, Carol Engle of Wilmington, mother-in-law, Mary Armstrong of Hillsboro, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim and Linda Gorman of Hillsboro, special niece, Debra (Tony) Fryman of Hillsboro, great nieces and nephew, Emily, Callie and Jordan Fryman of Hillsboro. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Tamara Sue, grandparents, Everett and Ruth Sexton and father-in-law, Eugene Armstrong. In accordance with Toms wishes, his body will be cremated and will be buried in the Hamer Township Cemetery at a later date. Kyle Ray Pitzer, 24, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 3rd, 2014 near New Vienna, OH. Kyle was born March 27, 1990 in Lawrence, Massachusetts the son of Cathy Anne (Walker) Pitzer and Jeffrey Wayne Pitzer. Kyle was a hardworking, talented and accomplished young man. He was a 2008 graduate from Lynchburg-Clay High School, a 2012 graduate of Wilmington College, and just two weeks ago received his Masters degree from Wright State University. He also worked for physical plant at Wilmington College, the National Archives, the Kentucky Historical Society, and most recently as a teaching assistant at Wright State University. While at Wilmington College Kyle was a gobbler, a member of the Gamma Phi Gamma Fraternity. He developed his closest friendships while living at the fraternity house, his home away from home, for three years. He was also a member of the Green Key Honor Society and the Order of Omega. He graduated with honors and received an award for the outstanding graduate majoring in history. Kyle also received a commendation from the State of Ohio for his work on a historical marker for Marble Hall. While at Wilmington Kyle developed a passion for social justice. His Masters thesis was an oral history of the Occupy Dayton movement. He also produced an audio snapshot of this social movement as part of the WYSO Voices of America radio program. Kyle was a loyal friend, a loving and caring son and brother, and the man in the house for his mother and sister. He loved music and playing his guitar. Like his father, Kyle could fix anything, loved to cook, and enjoyed nature. He could often be found fishing in local lakes with his high school friends. Kyle is survived by his mother, Cathy Pitzer of Lynchburg, OH and his father, Jeffrey (Donna) Pitzer of Florida; his sisters, Kari Thomas of Dayton, OH and Bailey Pitzer (Matt) Marshall of Georgia; his grandmother, Betty Pitzer of Perry, Georgia and the love of his life, Megan Saunders of Wilmington, OH. He is further survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many cherished friends. Kyle was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ray and Mary Walker of Hollywood, FL and Grubby Pitzer of Perry, Georgia. Marshall Mike T. Rowe age 76 of Midland, Ohio was called home early Thursday morning July 3rd, 2014 at the Mercy Health Hospital in Mt. Orab, OH. He was born February 13, 1938 in Cincinnati, OH the son of the late James Harlan and Zola Belle (Robinson) Rowe. Mr. Rowe worked as a mechanic for over 50 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a loving husband; father, brother, uncle and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Janice Marie (Garner) Rowe whom he married on August 27, 1955; four children, Barbara Zimmer of Midland, OH, Rebecca (Mike) Hedge of Lynchburg, Michael (Sheri) Rowe of Midland, OH and James (Amy) Rowe of Lynchburg; 17 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Cleo Rowe; his buddy, Braxton and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Sheryl Morrison; an infant son, Anthony Wayne Rowe; six siblings, Nora, Asa, Junior, Wanda, Wendell and Denver. Matthew William Matt Armintrout age 27 of Hillsboro died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at the St. Davids South Medical in Austin, Texas. He was born August 6, 1986 in Cincinnati, Ohio the son of Bill and Julie A. Walker Armintrout of Hillsboro. Matt was working in the construction industry in Texas. He was a 2005 graduate of Hillsboro High School and had been on the school golf team as a junior when they finished second in the state tournament. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, Brody William Armintrout of Hillsboro, one brother Curtis (Emily Kallenborn) Armintrout of Perry, Ohio, his maternal grandmother, Ruth Bowman of Hillsboro and his special friend, Morgan Rogers of Austin, Texas. Lois M. Higgins, age 79, of Hillsboro, died Friday evening June 27, 2014 at Clinton Memorial Hospital. She was born August 5, 1934 in Cleveland, OH to the late Benjamin J. and Lenore M. (Hruby) Prucha. She married James R. Higgins October 23, 1954. She was a graduate of John Marshall High School in 1952 and The Ohio State University in 1956 majoring in Vocational Home Economics Education and Biological Sciences. She was a member of the Lynchburg United Methodist Church. She taught Home Economics at Marshall and Lynchburg High Schools, was a book keeper for the Higgins Construction Company, a Foodservice Manager and Licensed Dietitian for nursing facilities in Clinton and Highland Counties. She was a Girl Scout leader, 4-H advisor, taught G.E.D. classes for Highland County Community Action and was the first woman elected to the Lynchburg-Clay School Board. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Judith (Kemal) Gursal of Fairview Park, OH; three daughters, Cathy (Tom) Wallach of Traverse City, MI, Sharon Higgins of Lynchburg, Laura Higgins (David Walters) of Des Moines, IA; one son David (Brenda) Higgins of Hillsboro, a foster son Ernest (Kitty) Collins of Lynchburg; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Ronald J. Prucha.
